Express Kenya Partners With Kenya Bus Service Management.
Express Kenya Limited collaborates with Kenya Bus Service Management   for its first ever pilot project.  The initial investment of a fleet of 10 buses was handed over by The Chairman of Express Kenya Ltd. Dr. Chris Obura to the Management  of KBSM led by their managing director, Mr. Edwins Mukabannah The  buses were supplied by Priority Motors Limited,  whose management was also present to mark this grand event.  
The primary reason for this project is to work hand in hand with the officials in developing Nairobi into a metropolis, by improving the City’s systems   through this professionally organized transport strategy, and providing   the “wananchi” with superior commuting facilities. A project of this nature not only betters safety and comfort during travelling but also enhances efficiency in our transport system. The two are determined to improve the standards of commuter service and are focused to meet the challenges and demands of their customers. Both brands are promising their customers a service that is safe, reliable and comfortable.
EKL recently celebrated 90 expressive years of service and looks forward to increasing its customer base through various projects with this franchise agreement being one of them. The board of directors is constantly looking into ways of exclusively tapping into markets that are making significant volume contributions. The focus on restructuring of divisions and vigorous marketing of all EKL services is beginning to pay off. The demand is growing strongly and therefore the focus remains to increase the divisions’ efficiency and competitiveness.

90 EXPRESSIVE YEARS! AGM & 90 YEARS CELEBRATION

2008 was a very “Big Year” indeed for Express Kenya, for the reason that 90 years of service were being celebrated in style during a glamorous and entertaining evening function!  The   37TH AGM was conducted in   the morning.  Both events took place at The Grand Regency Hotel, Nairobi. It was declared by the Chairman Dr. Obura at the AGM  that,  the  shareholders of Express Kenya Limited  will receive a dividend of Kshs 0.50 per share held, there is an increase in dividends received in comparison to the previous year , this is a very clear indication of the company’s outstanding performance . A record breaking turn up of  over  200 shareholders attended the AGM to receive the good news and listen to the Directors, on how the company plans to expand and improve the business for the next financial year. The shareholders made very positive remarks to the management as there has been   continued steady growth over the last 5 years. In spite   of continued challenges such as   soaring   fuel prices, deplorable state of roads, insecurity in our roads and increased competitiveness in the sector,   the gross profit has still risen in the year 2007. The directors announced that several   strategies will be implemented so as to increase   profits of  the  business such as, relocating to a modern premises, setting up a sales and marketing team, investing in new machinery and equipment, increasing warehouse facilities, venture into public transport, and focusing on customer care,  just to name a few! All Directors were re-elected unopposed to serve an extra term in office before the next AGM to be held in 2009.

GOOD NEWS FOR EXPRESS KENYA SHAREHOLDERS

The shareholders of Express Kenya Limited celebrated to the news that they will receive a dividend of Kshs 0.40 per share held, an indicator that the continuous turn-around of the company is on high gear, with good results for the Financial year 2006. This was declared by the chairman of Express Kenya Limited Dr. Chris Obura, during the Thirty Sixth Annual General meeting held at the Grand Regency Hotel, Nairobi on Friday, 20th July 2007. This is the first time in over 8 years that the shareholders have received dividends. Over 130 shareholders attended the AGM to receive the good news and listen to the Directors, on how the company plans to expand the business for the next financial year. The shareholders expressed their gratitude to the management as there has been a continued steady growth over the last 4 years. Despite the challenges like rise in fuel prices and the deteriorating condition of the roads, the gross profit has risen to over 40% from 24.5% in the year 2005. Part of the strategies included putting up a sales and logistics planning teams and investing in a new fleet of prime mover as transportation has played the largest role in the profits of business. All Directors were re-elected unopposed to serve an extra term in office before the next AGM to be held in 2008.

EXPRESS KENYA AT THE KCB SAFARI RALLIES

The last quarter have seen Express Kenya contracted thrice to transport safari rally cars to Nanyuki, Kabarnet & Eldoret during the KCB Mavuno Safari Rally series. More than 20 cars were transported on our specialized Car Carriers, most preferred by clients because of the safety record guaranteed to their precious vehicles while being transported to their respective destinations. We are glad to be associated with some of the winners of this rally whose services they enjoyed from us during this period.

NEW CLIENT AT EXPRESS CONTAINER DEPOT

The ever growing demand for Container Depot services by Shipping Lines has seen the addition to one more international Line, which commenced use of our Depot on 1st August, 2007. The Management and staff have welcomed this new development and are set to provide a flawless service inorder to satisfy their specific client demands. Other than storage services, minor repairs, cleaning & transportation services of these empty containers is on offer. This brings to 7 the total number of shipping lines being serviced at the Depot.

Shipping Lines Sign up

With the recent re-organization of our Container Depot, 3 shipping lines have signed contracts with Express Kenya for long term storage, repairs and cleaning of their empty containers destined for Mombasa. Transport of these containers back to the shipping yards in Mombasa is already on offer, in our continuous effort to provide completely integrated services to our clients.

Focus on Mombasa/Nairobi run increases

Due to increased demand for transporting containerized cargo from the Port of Mombasa, the company has embarked on increasing its business portfolio with aggressive marketing of this service to local companies, Development agencies and NGO’s operating within the region. More Prime movers have been deployed to cover this market segment, which is expected to boost the company revenues, now and in the future.
